Soledad O'Brien Joins HBO's Real Sports, Soledad O'Brien is headed back to TV. After making her final appearance as the anchor of CNN's Starting Point earlier this spring, the 46-year-old journalist will be joining Today show alum Bryant Gumbel on HBO's Real Sports, the network announced Wednesday, July 12. According to the Associated Press, O'Brien's first story is about war veterans who use martial arts to help cope with post-traumatic stress disorder.It's exactly what I've been doing for a long time -- telling stories about human beings and their struggles," O'Brien said of her new job.
O'Brien announced she was leaving Starting Point in February to start a production company, Starfish Media Group. John Berman and Christine Romans took over after her final episode aired March 29. In addition to Real Sports, O'Brien will continue to work on CNN's Black in America series, which began airing in 2008.
In addition to her TV career, the Harvard-educated journalist -- who co-anchored Weekend Today from 1999 to 2003 and American Morning from 2003 to 2007 -- has authored two books. She has four children -- daughters Sofia and Cecilia and twin sons Charles and Jackson -- with husband Bradley Raymond.
