As the officer challenged the man, he tried to escape and a struggle took place in which the officer ended up wrestling with the man in the middle of the road.At this time a member of the public, who could see the officer struggling, came and offered assistance and helped to restrain the suspect.
During the struggle the officer was threatened with a hypodermic needle.Lincolnshire Police expressed their thanks to the ‘Good Samaritain’ who intervened.Chief Inspector Daryl Pearce said: “Thankfully, with the assistance of the courageous member of the public the suspect was arrested without anyone being injured.
“I would like to express my thanks to that member of the public.“He is a 30-year-old local Lithuanian man. Too often we hear negative stories in the community relations arena.“But this demonstrates in a positive way the relationship the police do have with their local communities which includes members of all nationalities.”
