In 2011, LALATE first reported that news that Couric would be leaving the CBS Evening News to start her own syndicated talk show in 2012. Couric at the time was under a five year contract with CBS worth $15 million per year. Then, CBS News chairman, Jeff Fager, indicated that he would not be interested in renewing Couric at that pay rate for CBS.
Now as Couric is renewed for a second season of her ABC talk show, news reports claim that the Couric won’t make it to season three. And she may move over to CNN.
Her show’s co-creator and executive producer Jeff Zucker departed the talker during its first season to move to CNN. Now the NY Post claims that the “buzz inside ABC has been that Couric could leave the show after Season 2 and head to CNN to rejoin Zucker.”
Couric insiders claim that the she will not move to CNN. But staffers tell the NYPost that working on the show has allegedly been an nightmare with multiple staffing changes. “The show was oversold at syndication and hasn’t lived up to expectations. Now everyone at ABC is gossiping that Katie will end up at CNN with Jeff.”
A Fox inider says that the show has allegedly been a failure. “There is zero chance is goes to a third season. It might not even finish the second.” Fox claims the show has been an alleged bomb for ABC. “One of the biggest failures ever in syndication.
Terrible ratings, no growth, shouldn’t be on the air. Where did it miss the mark? Let’s start with her, she is dreadfully boring. The show offers nothing new to the audience, nothing to say”, says one Fox source to the Daily Mail. It even claims that Couric could be replaced quickly with another host soon. “They [ABC] are desperately running around approaching talent and offering to train them to replace her as a new daytime talk show host.”
