Florida Boat Crash: 10 Hospitalized, 18 Injured in Horrific Crash, hospitalized at least 10 people after two boats collided near the Elliott Key in Biscayne National Park on Sunday evening, according to officials.

The collision involved a 36-foot powerboat that was carrying 16 people, and another boat that was carrying just two, according to The Miami Herald.

The incident took place at about 6.30 p.m. local time, and although many were seriously injured, the crash did not result in any deaths, confirmed Jorge Pino, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman.
Pino said, "It was a violent collision. We're very fortunate no one was killed."

The large powerboat had to be towed back to the Black Point Marina in Cutler Bay following the accident, however, the other smaller boat involved in the crash ended up sinking and could not be salvaged.

In the immediate aftermath of the incident the cause of the crash was not entirely clear, but investigators are still working on identifying what happened.

Of the 10 boat passengers taken to hospital, one was so seriously injured they had to be airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center. The other nine were later also transported there.

A few hours after the incident NBC 6 reported that a total of 18 people were injured in the collision and that three had suffered extremely serious injuries.

Just in May, four people were killed and eight others injured in a boat crash in Iowa. Also a speedboat accident in May killed two and injured four others in a separate boating accident in Cornwall, England.
