The brees dream foundation, Drew Brees(notes) didn't lead his New Orleans Saints back to the Super Bowl this year, but he did win the 2011 Bart Starr Award. The Bart Starr Award is given to an individual in the NFL that exhibits character and leadership both on and off the football field.

Brees led the New Orleans Saints to a Super Bowl win in 2010, probably his most memorable moment in his NFL career. Brees is an excellent quarterback, but also a good humanitarian. This article is about Drew Brees, the man—not the quarterback.

Brees, along with his wife started the Brees Dream Foundation in 2003. The Brees Dream Foundation gives back to New Orleans, Louisiana, as well as other cities and facilities across the United States.

The Brees Dream Foundation was originally established to raise money to advance research efforts in finding a cure for childhood cancers. The foundation also promotes education, care of sick children and their families affected by this horrible disease.

To date over $6,000,000 has been donated to charitable organizations and facilities in New Orleans, San Diego, West Lafayette and Purdue communities from the Brees Dream Foundation.

In 2010 the Brees Dream Foundation has been busy raising money for new and old projects, as well as participating in community events and projects, such as hosting 100 college students in New Orleans, Louisiana for a week of working along with Habitat for Humanity in the Lower 9th Ward rebuilding homes that were destroyed in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina.

The Brees Dream Foundation came close to meeting their goal of raising $1,000,000 for the American Cancer Society's Patrick F. Taylor Hope Lodge located in New Orleans, LA. The money pledged for this cause will be put to good use renovating the facility.

Another huge undertaking by the Brees Dream Foundation in 2010 was dedicating services by hosting The Celebrity Championship in San Diego, California to raise funds for The Rady Children's Hospital, The Friends of Scott Foundation, The San Diego MS Foundation, and the San Diego Armed Services YMCA.

The Brees Dream Foundation also continued as in past years supporting the Purdue Athletes Life Success Camp, which is held in West Lafayette, Indiana.

The Brees Dream Foundation has been successful for many reasons. Drew Bees is personally involved with this foundation and works actively to promote it. The foundation has grown in each subsequent year. One of the reasons for the growth is the many programs that are continually added. The Brees Dream Foundation hosts different programs throughout the year that are both fun and educational. They all serve a good purpose too!

Some of the programs include the Brees Dream Foundation Amazing Race, Trust Your Crazy Ideas Challenge, Celebrity Championship, and Rebuilding Through Brotherhood. New programs are in development at this time. A few of the new programs that should become available in 2011 are the Quarterback Club, NFL Play 60, Omni Bank Making the Grade, and Visa Practical Money Skills.

With all of these wonderful events taking place throughout the year, it is no wonder that the Brees Dream Foundation has been so successful since its establishment. In fact, they have won an impressive array of awards, including the Horizon Award in 2008. The Horizon Award is presented by the United States Congress for excellence in community service.

Drew Brees will always go down in history as one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history. He will also be known for years to come as a great humanitarian.
